Bhutan Green Products was founded by Mr. Chhimi Dorjee, a passionate entrepreneur with a vision of creating sustainable market linkages for ginger and turmeric growers in the foothills of the Samdrup Jongkhar district in eastern Bhutan.

Mr. Dorjee was born and raised in the small village of Wooling under Orong Gewog (block) of Samdrup Jongkhar district. From a young age, he was exposed to the traditional cultivation methods of his ancestors, which rely on natural and organically-prepared manures.

After completing his education and serving for Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry for over a decade, Mr. Dorjee returned to his village and saw the potential for adding value to the locally grown organic spices and creating sustainable market linkages for farmers in his village and other communities in the region.

He was also deeply inspired by the noble initiative of Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative (SJI), founded by H.E. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, to declare the district as the organic district in an effort to help effectively implement the policies of Gross National Happiness introduced by His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, 4th King of Bhutan, by encouraging the communities in the district in organic farming and zero-waste management practices at the grass-roots level for sustainable food self-sufficiency and environmental protection. Wooling village, which is the first village to establish organic farmers’ group by Mr. Dorjee had also been identified as the model rural village for zero-waste management by the Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative and received cash awards from the Royal Government of Bhutan in recognition to the effective waste management.

Since then, Mr. Dorjee and his dedicated team of employees have been working passionately and tirelessly to establish long-term market linkages with buyers and offer high-quality value-added products at fair-trade prices. They are committed to engaging in agriculture-based green economic activity and creating a sustainable source of income for farmers’ groups engaged in organic farming practices.

With its suitable location, legally established linkages with farmers groups, and sound collaborations with relevant sectors, Bhutan Green Products is well-positioned to meet the ever-growing demand for organic spice products. Mr. Dorjee and his team are excited to share their products with the world and make a positive impact on the lives of farmers in Bhutan.

Mr. Jigme Nidup Gyeltshen, General Manager - He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the company. This involves overseeing production processes, managing the company’s finances and budget, hiring and managing staff, building and maintaining relationships with suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards, monitoring market trends and adjusting business plans accordingly, and developing marketing and promotional campaigns to increase sales and brand awareness. He is a member of the Internal Control System (ICS) Management team.

Mr. Chhimi Dorjee, Founder & CEO: He is responsible for a wide range of functions which includes, developing and implementing the company’s strategic plan to achieve its intended goals and objectives, as well as leading and managing the team to ensure effective execution of the said plan. In addition, he establishes and maintains relationships with customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders, and ensures that the company complies with legal and regulatory requirements. Mr. Dorjee also manages the company’s finances to ensure sustainable growth and profitability, identifies opportunities for innovation and improvement in the company’s products, and builds a positive organizational culture that motivates employees to perform at their best. He represents the company in various important events, and anticipates and addresses the challenges and risks that could impact the company’s success. He ensures that the company operates in an ethical and socially responsible manner.

Mr. Dendup Tshering, Production Supervisor - He is responsible for planning and organizing production schedules, overseeing the production process to ensure it runs smoothly and efficiently, and managing and supervising the production team. This includes assigning tasks and monitoring performance, ensuring that products meet required standards, and monitoring production output to identify areas for improvement in productivity and efficiency. Additionally, he maintains and controls inventory levels of raw materials and finished goods, ensures compliance with safety regulations, and maintains a safe working environment for all employees. He ensures that the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are strictly followed. Mr. Tshering collaborates with other units to ensure smooth and timely production processes. He is a member of Internal Control System (ICS) Management team.

Mr. Tshering Dorji, Technical Supervisor - His primary roles and responsibilities include, overseeing the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment used in the spices processing. He coordinates with the production team to ensure minimal equipment downtime and that production targets are met. Additionally, he develops and implements preventive maintenance programs to minimize equipment breakdowns and downtime. He trains and guides production support staff on the proper use and maintenance of equipment and machinery, conducts routine inspections to identify potential issues, and ensures compliance with health and safety regulations related to equipment and machinery use. Moreover, he collaborates with other units to ensure smooth and efficient operations and conducts research on new equipment and technologies to ensure productivity and efficiency in spice processing. He is a member of the Internal Control System (ICS) Management team.

Ms. Rinchen Zangmo, Assistant Marketing Manager - She is responsible to assist the CEO and General Manager in developing and executing effective marketing plans and promotions to enhance sales and boost brand awareness of the company’s spice products. She assists in conducting market research and analyzing consumer trends to identify new growth opportunities. Additionally, she works closely with the sales team to align marketing initiatives with sales goals and objectives, builds and maintains relationships with key customers and partners, manages the company’s social media presence and promote the brand and its products. She also assists in creating marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, and product catalogues, plans and coordinates participation in trade shows, exhibitions, and other promotional events.

Mr. Younten Phuntsho, Production Assistant - He supports the production team by helping to plan and schedule production activities to meet the demand, operating production equipment, and monitoring output to ensure that products meet quality standards. He also assists with quality control checks on raw materials and finished products, and with monitoring inventory levels of raw materials and finished products, informing the production supervisor when stocks are running low. In addition, he helps to maintain a clean and organized production area, ensures that equipment is properly cleaned and maintained, and prepares production reports and maintains production records. He performs general administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and document preparation, and assists in following health and safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.

Mr. Sangay Phuntsho, Stores Assistant: He is responsible for receiving and inspecting incoming materials, including raw materials and supplies, to ensure they meet the company's quantity and quality standards. He keeps accurate inventory records and maintains optimal stock levels, issuing materials and supplies to the production team as and when requested. He ensures that the store's area is clean, organized, and safe, coordinating with suppliers and other units to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to inventory. He conducts regular stock counts and audits to ensure accuracy of records, assists in the preparation of purchase orders, and ensures the timely delivery of raw materials and supplies. Mr. Phuntsho also maintains records of damaged, obsolete or surplus materials and organizes their disposal or sale, ensures compliance with safety, health and environmental regulations in the stores area, and supports the management team in identifying opportunities for process of improvements and cost savings in the stores function. He is a member of Internal Control System (ICS) Management team.
