Bhutan Naturals is a story of a man with a passion for sustainability and a vision to empower farmers in Bhutan. Mr. Chhimi Dorjee, a former employee of Bhutan Chamber of Commerce & Industry, returned to his village and saw the potential for adding value to locally grown organic spices and creating sustainable market linkages for farmers in his community. Inspired by the Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative, founded by H.E. Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche, to declare the district as an organic district, Mr. Dorjee established Bhutan Naturals in December 2017 with the support of the National CSI Bank Limited.
The processing unit, located in the commercial hub of eastern Bhutan, is committed to creating a sustainable source of income for farmers engaged in organic farming practices by offering high-quality, value-added spices such as dried ginger and turmeric powders, ginger and turmeric essential oils, and fresh ginger. Bhutan is a carbon negative country, and no chemical fertilizers are used in the cultivation of our spices, as confirmed by laboratory testing reports from SGS India Limited.
We are in the process of obtaining international organic and food safety certifications and are proud to source our raw materials from legally registered farmers’ groups. These farmers have been trained in organic ginger cultivation and have received Local Organic Assurance System certificates. Our products undergo strict food safety tests and are certified with GHP/GMP Food Safety standards by the Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority.
The company is technically supported by ITC/EU-Bhutan Trade Support Project, Commercial Agriculture Resilient Livelihood Enhancement Programme through the Samdrup Jongkhar district agriculture sector, BCCI-SWITCHAsia Project, and the Department of Agriculture Marketing and Cooperatives.
We are proud to share our brand story and are dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of farmers in Bhutan through sustainable agriculture and fair trade practices.
